Born and raised in Toronto and surrounding areas, I am a self–taught photo based artist and image technician. I developed and perfected my technical skills working in various media positions within the education system as well as commercial photo labs and newspaper darkrooms, where I learned the ins and outs of film processing, custom printing and production. These skills served me well when, later, I moved into digital imaging.
Relocating to Vancouver in 1981, I pursued my involvement in educational media and photographic imaging, and became involved in digital imaging in the mid-1990’s when I began working in the commercial printing industry here in Victoria. Starting out as a scanner operator and pre-press tech, this evolved into a full service fine-art division: this included all aspects of image management for offset as well as the then emerging ink jet printing market. At this time, I also starting working with local artists in acquiring hi-res digital captures of their original art works for use in fine art printing, book publications and online use of digital media.
After a lengthy career working in this field, 2012 saw me start out on my own, offering the same hi-quality services to which my clients had become accustomed.
I am an active member of the local arts scene, being a member of both the Victoria Community Arts Council and one of the founding members of the Gage Gallery Arts Collective. I am also a member in the local collaborative photographic group–VI: Call and Response.
Throughout my commercial career I have pursued my own creative pursuits as a photo-based artist, exploring various areas of interest and technical challenges. I have exhibited my work in various galleries and publications and have numerous prints in private collections in Canada and the USA.
